That's right!
On December 8, 1980, John Lennon was shot in the back by a deranged fan, Mark David Chapman, while returning to his apartment with his wife, Yoko Ono. He was transported to Roosevelt Hospital by two policemen in the back of their squad car, but was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived at the hospital, having lost over 80 percent of his blood volume from four bullet wounds. Fans all over the world mourned John's death. His remains were cremated, and it is believed that the ashes were either scattered somewhere or are still in the possession of Yoko. Best known as a singer/songwriter/guitarist for The Beatles, Lennon also had a successful solo career that produced such hits as "Imagine." His music has, by all accounts, had a profound impact on the development of rock music, and many of his songs are consistently ranked among the best of the 20th century. He was survived by his wife Yoko and his sons Julian and Sean.
