| FUDGE CAKE |

- ½ cup shortening
- 1¼ cups brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 oz. melted, unsweetened chocolate

- 2 eggs
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup milk

Cream shortening and brown sugar together. Add vanilla. Add eggs,
one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Beat in
chocolate gradually. Sift flour, baking powder, and soda together
and add alternately with milk to first mixture. Beat until smooth.
Turn into greased pan or pans. In loaf pan bake at 325° F.
for 1 hour. In layer cake pans bake at 350° F. for 25 minutes. |
