MOLASSES CHIPS

  • ¾ cup shortening
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 egg, unbeaten
  • ½ cup molasses
  • 2½ cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1½ teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon ginger
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 16-ounce package (1 cup) semisweet chocolate pieces
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and molasses. Mix and sift flour, baking soda, and spices; add. Mix well. Stir in semisweet chocolate pieces and walnuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about five dozen cookies.
