That's right!
Steve Owen was the New York Giants head coach from 1930 to 1953. (In addition to coaching, he also PLAYED for the Giants until 1936!) Known for his innovative gameplans, Owen created A-formation offense and the umbrella defense, as well as the two-platoon system in which different players fill offensive and defensive positions. He led the Giants to the NFL Championship Game eight times during his tenure and posted Championship victories over the Chicago Bears (1934) and the Green Bay Packers (1938). Owen retired in 1953 with a coaching record of 150-100-7 and only six losing seasons in 23 years. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1966.
