In 1943, the Philadelphia Eagles temporarily merged with the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a shortage of players as many of the younger prospects were fighting in World War II. The new team, which was called the Phil-Pitt Steagles, posted a solid 5-4-1 record. Following the 1943 season, the merger was dissolved.
