The Battle of Barbourville threw a scare into Federal commanders, who rushed troops to central Kentucky to try to repel the invasion, which was finally stopped at the Battle of Camp Wildcat in October.

The Grand Review of the Armies was a military procession and celebration in Washington, D.C., on May 23 and May 24, 1865, following the close of the American Civil War. Elements of the Union Army paraded through the streets of the capital to receive accolades from the crowds and reviewing politicians, officials, and prominent citizens, including the President of the United States, Andrew Johnson.

Alexander Augusta offered his services to the United States Army and in 1863, he was commissioned as major and the Army's first African-American physician. He became the first black hospital administrator in U.S. history while serving in the army.
