Gustav Graves is actually Colonel Tan-Sun Moon who secretly survived his confrontation with Bond in North Korea. Like Zao, he has undergone gene therapy in order to establish a new identity, but the therapy has robbed him of the ability to sleep.

To counter fatigue and psychological trauma caused by sleep deprivation, Graves uses a Dream Machine to mesmerize him into a state of REM without the normal accompanying sleep and prevent him from slipping into insanity.

Jinx uses an industrial laser to cut through the back of Mr. Kil's cranium, then cuts off his hand to unlock the facility's bio-metrically sealed door.

When 007 was in North Korea, it was Miranda Frost who secretly sent Bond's true identity to Moon's right-hand man, Zao, leading to Bond's imprisonment and torture. Graves had previously earned her allegiance by murdering her fencing competition at the Olympics and assuring her a gold medal.

During a car chase through the ice palace, Zao falls into the icy water below. He manages to escape his sinking car, but when he reaches the surface Bond shoots an ice chandelier above his head, which falls on Zao, killing him instantly.
