At the beginning of the film, Lee's master asks him: "What is the highest technique you hope to achieve?" As far as Lee is concerned, the highest technique is "to have no technique", meaning that he cannot be categorized into a particular style.

Lee learns from his teacher that Han was once a Shaolin student, but has been expelled from their order for abusing the code of conduct.
