Dick Elliot, the actor who portrayed Mayor Pike died December 22nd 1961 (midway into Season 2's run and one month before his final episode, "The Manicurist", originally aired), resulting in the disappearance of Mayor Pike from the series. In season 3, he is succeeded by Mayor Roy Stoner.

Floyd Lawson's barber shop is something of an institution in Mayberry. He is also an amateur poet, sometimes composing verse for Mayberry civic events. These poems basically consist of repeating the same few words over and over.

Ron Howard's younger brother Clint plays a preschool-aged sandwich-eating cowboy in five episodes. He never speaks, and we never find out who his parents are.

Howard Sprague is Mayberry's county clerk and the long-suffering son of Mrs. Sprague. He is portrayed by actor Jack Dodson in 38 episodes of The Andy Griffith Show and 45 episodes of Mayberry R.F.D..

When Don Knotts left the series in 1965 to pursue film roles, Barney was said to have left Mayberry to join the police force in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Don Knotts is best known for his role as Barney Fife, Andy's inept but well-meaning deputy.

Mayberry Days is an annual celebration of The Andy Griffith Show in Andy's hometown of Mount Airy, NC.
