Marcia gets a job at a local ice cream shop. When her boss Mr. Haskell starts taking afternoons off, he puts Marcia in charge and hires Peter on her recommendation, but Peter continually goofs off, so Marcia fires him and hires Jan as a replacement.

Her first husband, Daniel Alan Martin, disappeared without an explanation, leaving her to raise their three girls, Marcia, Jan, and Cindy, on her own.

Alice Nelson was known for telling jokes (often self-deprecating and interspersed with dry humor) which were almost invariably met with "Oh, Alice!" by the Brady clan.

While the series did not earn any Emmy nominations during its original run, it has since become an icon of popular culture in syndication.
