Although the creature in It takes on the form of many fears, including Pennywise the clown, it is revealed to be an ancient alien creature that feasts on the flesh of humans because their fears are easy to manifest and make them taste better.

As a child, King apparently witnessed one of his friends being struck and killed by a train, though he has no memory of the event. His family told him that after leaving home to play with the boy, King returned, speechless and seemingly in shock. Only later did the family learn of the friend's death.

The master of horror has many fears, including spiders, the number 13 (he won't stop working on page 13 or a multiple of 13, he will keep typing until he gets to a "safe" number), and the mental illnesses of old age including Alzheimer's and dementia. He says "That's the boogeyman in the closet now. I'm afraid of losing my mind."

In June of 2017, after tweeting criticisms of President Donald Trump's administration, Trump blocked King from following or viewing his account. King tweeted "Trump has blocked me from reading his tweets. I may have to kill myself."

16) Why did King not have to serve during the Vietnam War?


When King reported to his local draft board, he was declared "4F", or unfit for service. Due to his terrible vision, punctured ear drums, flat feet and abnormally high blood pressure, the doctor stated "You're a mess, boy" and ruled him out on the spot. Given that he spent a considerable amount of time in college protesting the Vietnam War effort, he was ok with that decision.

Room 217 is haunted by one of the many ghosts of the Overlook Hotel, a woman who committed suicide in the bathtub of her room.

Alan Pangborn is the sheriff of Castle Rock, Maine. He is a character in The Dark Half and Needful Things and is mentioned by name in Gerald's Game, Bag of Bones and the novella The Sun Dog. He is not, however, in the novel Carrie.
