Jeremy Spencer was Fleetwood Mac's original guitarist and played with the group on its first four albums. Shortly after arriving in LA for a gig at the Whisky A Go Go, Spencer left the band's hotel room to visit a bookshop on Hollywood Boulevard. He did not return, forcing the cancellation of that evening's concert while the band went searching for him. Some days later, he was found to have joined a religious cult called the Children of God, and he declared that he no longer wanted any involvement with Fleetwood Mac.

On 23 August 1967, while on tour with the Who, drummer Keith Moon celebrated his 21st birthday (it was actually his 20th birthday) at a Holiday Inn in Flint, Michigan. As soon as he reached Flint, Moon started drinking. He started a food fight and knocked out part of his front tooth. At the hospital, doctors removed the remainder of the tooth but couldn't give him an anesthetic due to his inebriation. Back at the hotel, Moon began throwing guests and furniture into the pool and started a fire. A piano was reportedly destroyed. Hotel management was furious, presented Moon with a bill for $24,000, and banned the Who from all Holiday Inn properties for life.

In 2010, Train's frontman fell sick just prior to the Bite of Las Vegas Festival. Imagine Dragons, who at the time were still playing to a lot of empty lounges in Vegas, were called to fill in for them and performed in front of a crowd of more than 26,000 people.

After a few bottles of Jack Daniels, bassist Krist Novoselic heaved a tamale at Kurt Cobain, who retaliated with a salvo of guacamole. Soon food was flying with no regard for the industry geeks whose suits were getting splattered. The doormen rounded the band up and got them out the door just in time for them to barf up their drinks on the side of the road. "We were laughing," Novoselic remembers. "Oh my God, we just got kicked out of our own record release party!"

The airplane that Buddy Holly died in was named American Pie. Don McLean would later write a song about the accident with the same title. The single was a number-one hit in the U.S. for four weeks in 1972.

Long before he became famous, Bruce Springsteen was caught climbing over the Graceland fence by Harold Lloyd, Elvis' first cousin and a security officer working nights at the mansion. Elvis was not home. Springsteen was promptly escorted off the property.

Bono's, the Edge's, and Larry Mullen's involvement in a Charismatic Christian group in Dublin called the "Shalom Fellowship" led them to question the relationship between their religious faith and the lifestyle of a rock band. Bono and the Edge considered quitting U2 due to their perceived spiritual conflicts before deciding to leave Shalom instead.

Pearl Jam had previously allowed fans to make amateur recordings of shows. But in 2000, they decided to record and release "official bootlegs" for every concert they played on the Binaural Tour. By 2001, there were 72 of them. Several hit the chart, with the band's Nov. 6, 2001, gig in Seattle making it to No. 98.

It was not the first rock and roll record, nor was it the first successful record of the genre, but on July 9, 1955, "Rock Around the Clock" became the first rock and roll recording to hit the top of Billboard's Pop charts, a position it held for eight weeks.

"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" was written for the 1998 natural disaster film Armageddon which starred Steven Tyler's daughter Liv Tyler. The song was nominated for both an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Original Song, but lost both to "When You Believe" from The Prince of Egypt and "I Wanna Be Mike Ovitz!" from An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn, respectively.
