In the 5th round 2007 NHL Entry Draft, the Stars drafted the relatively unknown Jamie Benn 129th overall. He would go on to become team captain in 2013-14, and the following year was awarded the Art Ross Trophy as the league's leading scorer with 87 points.

In 2007-08, Mike Ribeiro earned his first NHL All-Star Game appearance, with career highs in goals (27), assists (56), points (83), and shooting percentage (25.2%).

Danny Grant made the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens in 1967-68, playing 22 regular season games and 10 playoff games on his way to a Stanley Cup championship with Montreal. He was then acquired by the Minnesota North Stars, and in his 1968-69 "rookie" season won the NHL's Calder Memorial Trophy, thus becoming one of only four players who won the Stanley Cup the season before winning the Calder Trophy.

Joe Nieuwendyk finished the 1998-99 season with 28 goals and 55 points in 67 games, then added 11 goals and 10 assists in the 1999 Stanley Cup playoffs to help the Stars win their first Stanley Cup. Six of his playoff goals were game winners, and he was voted the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as most valuable player of the playoffs.

One reason for the Stars success in 2005-06 was their strong play in shootouts, as forward Jussi Jokinen was nearly automatic, making 10-of-13 shot attempts. Also performing well in shootouts was Sergei Zubov, who used a slow-but-steady backhand to go 7-for-12, as the Stars ultimately won 12 of 13 games that were settled by a shootout.

Thanks to Shields' 42 saves, the game ended in a 2-2 tie, despite the Ducks being outshot 44-22.

Hall-of-Famer Dino Ciccarelli played 19 seasons in the National Hockey League, primarily with the Minnesota North Stars. He scored 1,200 points and 608 goals in his NHL career, the most goals by a draft-eligible player who was not drafted by an NHL team.

Nicknamed "Big Ben", Bishop is the tallest goaltender to ever play in the NHL, along with Mikko Koskinen, at a height of 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m).

Neal Broten's highest point total came during the North Stars 1985-86 season when he compiled 29 goals and a franchise-record 76 assists for 105 points in 80 games--the only time he would eclipse the 100-point mark.

The Stars traded for three-time Frank J. Selke Trophy winner Guy Carbonneau, who became a key piece to the Stanley Cup winning formula and lifted his third and final cup with Dallas in 1999.
