Jacks car, featured in the opening sequence, is a yellow 1973 Volkswagen Beetle.

Lloyd was a bartender who worked in the lounge at the Overlook Hotel. After he died, his ghost remained behind, cleaning glasses and serving drinks.

LLOYD: What'll it be, sir?
JACK: Hair of the dog that bit me.
LLOYD: Bourbon on the rocks.
JACK: That'll do it.

The throwing around of the tennis ball inside the Overlook Hotel was Jack Nicholson's idea. The script only specified that "Jack is not working".

When Wendy races Danny into the hedge maze, she says, "The loser has to keep America clean," a reference to the "Keep America Beautiful" public service announcements of the 1970's featuring Iron Eyes Cody who portrayed a Native American shedding a tear over pollution.

When Jack gets violent, Wendy locks him in the pantry, but the ghost of Delbert Grady, the former caretaker who "corrected" his family, slides open the bolt of the larder door, allowing Jack to escape.

Before things get scary, Wendy wakes Jack up to a breakfast of sunnyside up eggs, bacon, and juice.

Jack encounters a ghostly masquerade party in the Gold Room. One of the ghosts, Delbert Grady, tells Jack he must "correct his family."

During Jack's interview, Mr. Ullman tells Jack construction was completed in 1909.

The poster which sits symmetrically between two table lamps and directly above the TV of a naked woman with an afro and an unusual necklace is a photo of model Azizi Johari in the early 1970s. Johari was Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month in June 1975.
